Original models were made without a hood for easy access to parts and fixing. The collectability of the Wheel Horse Mower is largely believed to be [a product] of their "every man" uses. In the late '50's, with the demand for mowers on the rise, the Wheel Horse brand was a popular brand because it was relatively inexpensive, practical for home use and easy to maintain. Some time before 1960, the brand ventured to their success to a new level, venturing into larger tractors to add to their riding lawn mower line. The standardization of this unique and collectible brand was a stalwart characteristic that kept it a favorite among consumers for decades. By [the time] the calendar turned to 1960, Wheel Horse couldn't maintain with production demands. Although, they still managed to create 4.5 million dollars in '59 (which is equivalent to 33 million dollars in 2009)! The Wheel Horse Brand was acquired by American Motors (AMC) in the '70's and transferred to Toro in the 1986, where its strong history and engineering are still put [to use].

The tractors and mowers by themselves call for a pretty penny on auction markets and their presence in newer forums like eBay has steadfastly grown.
