Buyer’s Guide to Ergonomic Desk Chairs

Sitting down is going to be restful, relaxing and relatively easy on your body when when equated with do other labor intensive jobs. Yet, if you are sitting in the wrong chair, or sitting the wrong way you could learn your body out of wack!

Desk chairs come in all shapes and sizes. There is no doubt that some are better than others when it comes to ergonomic design. Even if you can't afford a fancy ergonomically designed chair, keep in mind these basic rules.

Seat - a good seat should allow your weight to sit evenly balanced across it. You should have at least an additional inch on each side of your hips and the back of your knees should clear the edge of the chair by an inch or two when your back is flush with the chair back.

Back - Your chair should support both your lower and upper back and you should be in a position to tilt back slightly when seated at your desk.

Height - Your seat height should allow your thighs to be parallel to the earth and your feet to rest flat on the floor. It should also allow your arms to rest comfortably on the desk in front of you.

Stability - A good desk chair will have five points on its base. Your chair can be padded for comfort, but be certain that it is firm enough to support your body.
